David had unwisely placed himself in a situation that intensified his fear: not only was Saul seeking his life, but Achish and the officials of Gath were also considering what to do with him. David confronted his fear with unwavering trust in the LORD and by praising the LORD for the reliability of His Word. Years earlier, God had chosen and secretly anointed David to be Israel’s future king. Now, David was buoyed by the confidence that God would fulfill that which He had promised. Secure in God’s sovereign plan for his life, David determined that he would not fear what mortal man could do to him. No human being could overrule God’s purpose for his life.
Trusting in the Lord like David did can eliminate any fear you have. Praising God and relying on His Word produces resilience and trust in God that will give you confidence that His ultimate purposes for your life will prevail even in the state of fearing particular outcomes.

  • What can you do to praise God amidst fear?
  • Do you believe God’s purposes are good?
  • Resilience and trust in God’s purposes take intentionality. Be intentional with going before God this week in prayer. Pray that he would change your fears into praises.

We must be strong and courageous as we march through life. Fear and discouragement can be conquered only as we are strong and courageous. God is with us, and He will never leave nor forsake us. This is His promise to us just as it was to Joshua. His unfailing presence is always with us wherever we go. Therefore, we must stand strong and courageous against all the enemies, trials, and temptations that confront us. No matter how many crushing problems, tough situations, or difficult people we face—no matter how many lustful temptations or terrifying trials we face— God is right there with us. God will deliver us and give us victory over the enemy that confronts us. We must stand strong and courageous, conquering all opposition and fulfilling our task for the LORD.

Study Questions:

  • It’s not always easy to be strong and courageous, how can you build up a heart full of courage and strength?
  • Are you confident in the promise that God’s unfailing presence is always with you?
  • Know that it is okay to be weak at times; God doesn’t expect us to be strong and courageous at all times. God can use our weaker moments to ultimately grow us in courage and strength to bring Him glory and bring rest to our fears.

"Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled." (Luke 6:21a KJV).

Do you hunger for the Word of God? Do you thirst for righteousness. Being physically hungry is not a blessing. The message of Luke is one that is spiritual. It means that you have a starving spirit, one that craves righteousness. Are you hungry?

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit." (James 5:16-18 KJV).

Prayer is God's Love Language, and it's power is not to be underestimated. Think about how much power it was for Elijah to call on God to stop up the rain, and then call on Him to start it back up again. Jesus Himself knew that prayer brings God's blessings down on you. He knew how important it was, so much that His disciples wanted to have part of this power when they asked Him "Lord, teach us to pray…"

The thing we have to realize though, it's not the result of the person praying, but the power of God who he is praying to. If we approach Him with full confidence in what we are asking and our hearts are in the right place then our prayers will be answered. But it is the man that comes for his own personal needs and wants. God is not a genie in a bottle that we access through some type of magic word or formula. No we access the Father through the Spirit, as He says to us that we must worship Him in Spirit and Truth. God is so good to us and He knows what it is before we even come to Him, He just wants us to ask Him for it. Not that He is holding anything as ransom, but He just wants to communicate with us.

Philippians 4:6 tells us "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. We have all sinned and fall short of God's glory each day, but it's the person that realizes this and goes back to Him with a humble heart and spirit. He longs to hear from you and He wants to give you the desires of your heart, if you ask Him for it.

God we praise and bless Your Holy name. Thank You for the goodness of Your grace and mercy. Thank You for Your faithfulness. At times Father we do not know what we should pray for or even how we should approach You, so we ask You, teach us to pray. Show us how and what we are to say. Take whats in our hearts and meet us at our point of need. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

I pray for each of you tonight that God covers you and your families. I pray that He keeps you all safe and sound and give you the much needed rest.

One Love,
